Empowerment

  The VIVA Empowerment Trust was established together with VIVA Engineering (Pty) Ltd during march 2001. The principle motivation for the establishment of the Empowerment Trust and the formation of the company was to empower certain eligible employees of the company being Blacks, Indians and Coloureds, as well as actively support empowerment related businesses. This empowerment and support will be effected by ensuring that:

  • Eligible employees are given the opportunity to share in the growth of the company;
  • The economy is opened up to a greater number of South Africans;
  • An efficient and competitive economic enviroment is created focusing on the development of elegible employees with a view to facilitating the change from the status of worker to owner/manager.

In essence, The Empowerment Trust has allowed the company to enter into a true joint venture relationship with certain of its employees (being Blacks, Coloureds and Indians) and in so doing we believe that we are able to not only ensure the empowerment and upliftment of such eligible employees, but also afford them an opportunity to manage and own the business. The above-mentioned philosophy is also carried through into the broader economy by ensuring that 80% of the Company's service providers and employees will be Blacks, Coloureds and Indians.

Salient Points

  • The Empowerment Trust owns 50% of the company;
  • The beneficiaries of the Trust are Blacks, Coloureds and Indians;
  • The Empowerment Trust is aimed at the allowing the aforementioned employees the opportunity to acquire real ownership of 50% of the company;
  • The company's Articles' of Association are drawn in such a manner so as to incorporate the empowerment principles.
